Edmond man tries to steal sand from trap at the Masters
AUGUSTA, GA — A drunk golf patron at Augusta National Golf Club was arrested Sunday evening after trying to steal some sand from a sand trap at Augusta National Golf Club.
Just as golfers were winding up the final round of the Masters tournament, 40-year-old Clayton Price Baker of Edmond, Oklahoma slipped past a rope barrier on one of the holes and tried to put some sand from a sand bar into his drinking cup, sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay said. A security guard tried to grab the patron, but the drunk man took off running.
“He didn’t make it far,” Capt. Gay said. “He took flight but was apprehended by Augusta National security and the sheriff’s office.”
Capt. Gay described Baker as very drunk and said he was a salesman who was here with a large group. His night did not end so well, though, as his attempt to get some souvenir sand from Augusta National ended in his arrest for disorderly conduct.
“I guess he had some kind of fetish for sand,” Capt. Gay said.
And if you didn’t hear, American Bubba Watson won the Masters.
